Learn to Call Upon Allah swt With Full Confidence

Bismillahir rahmanir raheem

Verily your Lord is Generous and Shy. If His servant raises his hands to Him (in supplication) He becomes shy to return them empty

Every day, whether you’re aware of it or not we call upon Allah swt. In every prayer we recite Al-Fatihah and ask Allah swt to guide us on the straight path, but do we call upon Allah swt with full confidence?

One of the prerequisites of making dua’a is that you ask of Allah swt knowing that it is more than within His swt power to grant us what we are seeking. Some shy away from making dua’a but we should be needy and continuously turning to Allah swt for guidance and sustenance inshaAllah.

“Call upon Me; I will respond to you.” [Surah Ghafir: 60]

If we don’t call upon Allah swt, who is supposed to provide for us?

“There is no creature on Earth except that its sustenance is upon Allah. He knows its habitation and its repository. All is in a clear Record.” [Sûrah Hûd: 6]

So what makes you think He swt cannot provide for you?

Abu Hurayrah (ra) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said: “(The dua’a) of any one of you will be answered so long as he is not hasty in seeking a response and does not say, ‘I prayed but I have not had a response.’” [Bukhari & Muslim]

Sometimes we think that because Allah swt is not giving us exactly what we want, when we want it, that He swt is displeased with us or that He swt has not heard our dua’a but this is a fault in ourselves that we need to correct. Allah swt is Al-Sami’ (the All-Hearing) so of course He swt has heard your dua’a. As a believer, we must recognise that sometimes what we are making dua’a’ for is not good for us and Allah swt is keeping us away from that harm. Alternatively, if you make dua’a Allah swt could be reserving that thing for us in jannah or giving us something better. Understanding this will strengthen your imaan (faith) and increase your love for Our Creator.

It is also important to remember to never be stingy with your dua’a – whether it is for yourself or for others. Allah swt is capable of providing you will all that you ask for, no matter how inconceivable it may seen to us. The Prophet Zakariya (as) made dua’a to Allah swt for a son, knowing that his wife was barren and that he was a very old man. Despite this, he called upon Allah swt with full confidence knowing that anything is possible. Allah swt created Adam (as) from dirt, Hawwa (as) from his rib and Isa (as) from nothing so why would He swt not have been able to provide for you and everything else in creation?

Musa (as) called upon Allah swt to loosen the knot in his tongue so he could speak to the people and provide him with a helper in the form of his brother Haroon (as) because he know that Allah swt is Al-Aziz (The-Mighty) and Al-Muqtadir (The-Powerful).

We call upon Allah swt because we know it is only He swt who can answer, subhanAllah. Even when we ask others for help, we only ask for their help knowing that it is by the will of Allah swt that they are of assistance. This is why we don’t say inshaAllah when making dua:

The Prophet (saw) said, “When anyone of you does Dua then don’t say “Oh Allah! Forgive me if you want“, “Have mercy on me if you want“, “Give me subsistence if you wish” rather believe completely that HE will do whatever HE wishes. Nobody can force Him.” [Bukhari]

Have complete faith in Allah swt and Allah swt will guide you, ere in that faith and it becomes so much easier for Shaytaan to lead you astray.
