The Sunnah Food Series | Christal Joan

Bismillahir rahmanir raheem

Food is medicine. When I was younger I spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals. No matter what medicines I took the only thing that made a significant change was switching up my diet.

As I got older, I phased out medicine and took up the ‘food as medicine’ philosophy and alhamdulillah I’ve never felt better.

Islam in it’s most basic form teaches is that we should eat to live not live to eat.

No human ever filled a vessel worse than the stomach. Sufficient for any son of Adam are some morsels to keep his back straight. But if it must be, then one third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for his breath – Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasaa’I, Ibn Majah – Hadith sahih

Here are the 5 foods I’ll be covering are:

  1. Honey
  2. Citron (i.e. lemons/ limes)
  3. Olive oil
  4. Dates
  5. Grapes

So stay tuned inshaAllah as we explore these 5 foods from the sunnah of our beloved Messenger (saw).
