Give sadaqah and carry on!

1.  Keep a change jar or change in the car

Abu Hurayrah (ra) reported Allah’s Messenger (saw) as saying: “Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people).” [Muslim]

Christal Joan: A quote narrated by Abu Hurayrah (ra) that tells us that charity does not decrease wealth. Taken from my 5 ways to give sadaqah all year round article on christaljoan.com

Giving charity does not decrease wealth. Wallahi (I swear by Allah), I can testify to this. Whatever you give Allah swt, He will increase the barakah (blessings) in it either in this world or the next! Keep a change jar and when it gets full don’t count it, donate it. This is something that you can encourage your children to do as well. It may not seem like a lot to you but in the sight of Allah swt and those who are in need, this small change is a mercy.

2. Give water

The Prophet (saw) said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.” [Ahmad]

Christal Joan: THE PROPHET (SAW) SAID- “THE BEST CHARITY IS GIVING WATER TO DRINK.” [AHMAD]. Quote taken from the 5 ways to give sadaqah all year round article on christaljoan.com

Giving water is one of the best forms of charity. Can you imagine waking up in the morning, turning on the tap and there being no water? And then having to walk for miles to find water that wasn’t even clean? SubhanAllah. Our brothers and sisters worldwide are suffering from a shortage of water and inshaAllah we can help. Share the khayr (good) with your family and friends and get together to fundraise to build a well in a country of your choice or where you feel there is the greatest need.

Muslim Aid, Muslim Hands and Islamic Relief all have projects that you can donate to, to provide people with life saving water.

3. Donate to your local food bank

Abdullah ibn Umar (ra) never used to eat a meal without there being an orphan at the table

How many of us eat without thinking of whether our orphan brothers and sisters are eating? Find out how you can help them (and yourself in the aakhirah) by reading how to give simple sadaqah on christaljoan.com

If you live in the UK, you’ll know that the amount of food banks has skyrocketed after sweeping welfare cuts and widespread poverty. They’re everywhere and Muslims and non-Muslims alike need them to survive from day to day.

Ibn Az-Zubair reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (saw) say, “He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while the neighbour to his side goes hungry.” [Sunan Al-Kubra 19049]

Christal Joan: The Prophet (saw) always implored us to take care of our neighbours. Let's learn how to follow his example and reach jannah together insha Allah by reading the article on christaljoan.com

We may not think it’s a lot but tinned foods, toiletries and other everyday essentials are gravely needed by our neighbours and we can provide them with that. Just think, if you bought extra tubes of toothpaste, soap and a few canned goods and donated them at the end of every month. You’d changing someone’s life who really needs it.

4. Plant a tree

The Prophet (saw) has said: ‘A Muslim does not plant, or sow anything from which a person, animal or anything eats but it is considered as Sadaqah from him.’ [Bukhari]

Christal Joan: Plant a tree insha Allah, it's sadaqah. Find out why by clicking through and reading the article on christaljoan.com

This could be done in your garden, in a friend’s garden, in your allotment or overseas but I urge you brothers and sisters, plant a tree! This is one of the best forms of on-going charity that you can give subhanAllah. Olive trees are so cheap to buy subhanAllah and they provide those in need with so many resources, it’s worth considering purchasing one from Muslim Hands. They go from as little as £10. Our brothers and sisters in Palestine desperately need our help. Their lands are being ripped away from them by Israeli occupation or they’re being forced to work in Israeli plantations earning pennies. Make a difference.

And if you don’t want to buy an olive tree, fruit trees are also available inshaAllah.

5. Smile!

The Prophet (saw) has said: ‘Your smile for your brother is Sadaqah. Your removal of stones, thorns or bones from the paths of people is Sadaqah. Your guidance of a person who is lost is Sadaqah.’ [Bukhari]

Christal Joan: Your smile in your brother's face is sadaqah. Find out how by clicking through and reading the article on christaljoan.com

I know you’ll all like this one because it’s free! The joy I feel in my heart when I see a sister and she smiles at me, subhanAllah, it truly does spread blessings within the Ummah. A smile can change your whole day!

If Allah swt has put you in the position where you are blessed enough to be able to give sadaqah then give it! You may be fixing someone’s duniya, but they are securing your akhirah. They’re doing more for you than you ever know subhanAllah.

Sis, I absolutely love this post. I think sometimes the notion that sadaqah is purely a hefty cheque puts people of from partaking in such a blessed action. JazakAllahKhair for the reminders. Sharing with all now 🙂

Wa iyyaki sis. It’s true, when things are made to seem burdensome we shy away from doing them or feel like we’re entitled to something for doing them subhanAllah. Islam is easy, we unfortunately make it hard lol. Jazakillahu khayrun for the comment, glad you like the article
